Best of luck with your program. I also am a beginning programmer. I had started my program in early February. Be prepared to be very patient! Other links you may find of help are .... http://www.maths.nott.ac.uk/personal/anw/G13GT1/alphabet.html http://www.tim-mann.org/chess.html http://home.comcast.net/~tckerrigan/ Your may also be interested in the following books ... http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=CJ5l84c95V&isbn=0387948201&itm=5 The book is about the Kasparov-DeepBlue matches, but, also gives some broad description of some of the programming techniques used. http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=CJ5l84c95V&isbn=3528057327&itm=1 This book by Heinz discusses in much greater detail techniques used in programming. I consider it a good collection. A number of people say that "you can get the information for free on the internet", but, I find it nice to have it in one place. ... and lastly ... http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=CJ5l84c95V&isbn=0387949305&itm=1 Although this is a book about the checkers playing program Chinook, it is very interesting to read. Also, as you can imagine, the vast majority of the techniques used in Checkers apply to Chess. Good luck!
