The demo does not require a high-end card at all. Or, rather, if it does, then
it's a bug. According to the CM website, here are the video requirements:

Video Card: 4 MB (for 3D gameplay see supported list*)
*Supported Video Cards at Time of Release:
GeForce™ 1/2/3/4/FX families ATI® Radeon™ 7500/8000/ 9000 families.
These chipsets are the only ones that will run this game in 3D. Additional
chipsets may be supported after release. For an up-to-date list of supported
chipsets, please visit the FAQ for this game on our support website at:
http://support.ubi.com.

I would say that that is so low that it is not even a "requirement". Basically,
you're talking about cards that are very old in terms of 3D-chip technology.

What video cards are on your machines? I would say that it is more likely that
your cards do not have drivers that support DirectX 9, which CMX requires.
