Which threat? I do not have any statistics, but I think in my games most checks are simple intermediate moves with no particular threats after them. Probably the best test you can do is to look after engine-engine games played by your engine in which it had at some point only one legal move, and play them out with and without your new time management idea (I am assuming your engine keeps a record of how much time it had after each move).
