Type "read".  That starts a new game and reads moves in until you type "exit".
It leaves the game set at that point and then goes back into command mode.
"read filename" sucks in a PGN game from "filename" and leaves you set at the
position after the last move.

"reada" (read append) reads in moves from the keyboard or from "filename" if
given, and appends them to the current position...
