Yes, you obviously have to experiment in order to find out what number
works best for you.  The reason that my number is as big as 4 could be
that I prune a lot of moves in the last few plies.

Yes.

In my experience, it reduces the number of nodes searched by something
like 10-15%.  As always, YMMV.
