I find it to be very entertaining to play with Altivec. If you need the computer for general usage and you also enjoy unix then Apple is the better choice. If you like to have full control of your system and are ready to live with a few, small, problems then linux is your choice. I have both. Linux is my playground where I get to experiment with everything and anything.
