If you switch to lettuce you might be able to get a Cadillac too. :-)

I would do exactly that!
The G5 is a more interesting CPU and the Apple systems are generally better than
the PCs (AMD, Intel).

I find it to be very entertaining to play with Altivec.
If you need the computer for general usage and you also enjoy unix then Apple is
the better choice.

If you like to have full control of your system and are ready to live with a
few, small, problems then linux is your choice.

I have both.
Linux is my playground where I get to experiment with everything and anything.
OS X is where I keep my home pictures and music and office documents.

On the server side linux is your buddy. There is hardly any comparison if you
can get around the text files in /etc ;-) and if you can use the shell and the
application then you might actually have fun while administering your machines.

This is very subjective. I'm sure that each is better for some particular
application. However, IMHO, the G5 is a lot more fun!!!
