Some time ago, I posted some conmments about Crafty leaving so much time on the table because time management seemed so conservative. Furthermore, the USAGE parameter in the .rc file didn't seem to have any effect. I questioned the way usage_level worked in time.c and got a response from Dr. Hyatt satisfying me that it, in fact, was working correctly. I forgot about the issue. Recently though, I became curious as to what happened when COMPUTER was in the .rc file. I discovered that usage_level is set to 0 in option.c when specified. I assume that if the GUI issues a COMPUTER command, the same thing happens. From my experience with testing the USAGE parameter, this might be the reason for my belief that it wasn't working. If I am correct, is there a reason for ignoring USAGE when playing a computer, and is there a way around it? Dave
