You have a lot of options:
(a) Download winboard/arena, and then download some weaker programs such as
golem/tscp and play against them. There are a _lot_ of free chess programs
available. Visit http://wbec-ridderkerk.nl/ for a huge list/download links of
engines

(b) Play at freechess.org. There you can play humans as well as bots. Natwarlal,
my chess engine, also plays there. Registration is free.

(c) Play at other servers such as ICC (commercial) Both bots & humans players
there.

Pallav
