There are at least five programs on the SSDF list that support SMP: Shredder,
Junior, Fritz, Sjeng, and Crafty. There are almost three thousand games played
by those engines. It would take over four years to test just those five
programs. In four years no one is going to care how well Shredder 8 does on a
dual Opteron. Not to mention that Opteron versions of most of those programs are
not yet available, so the data wouldn't tell us much anyway. Even if you exclude
Sjeng and Crafty and only test Shredder, Junior, and Fritz, you still have at
least one thousand games to play, so Dann's estimate was not far off.
