It's not at all clear to me the issue is one of money. There are too many
unknown factors. For one thing, you'll note that the humans aren't the best
players in the world either, with Topalov being the only one I'd agree is a good
candidate to playa against a machine. Karjakin is certainly brilliant and a
future top 10, but to have him represent humanity and claim to be an expert in
playing against computers... Not really. Then there's the presence of Hydra.
Hydra is a fascinating machine, but it really does lack more credible
references. Overall, I see it just as an exhibition event with a fancy sounding
title added to make it sound more impressive. After all, there was no selection
process involved.
