Happy 1999 to all!
Here a position that grabbed my attention. It is from a game Crafty-Fritz5.
White is a Rook versus Bishop up.
Position is very unclear. I allowed DIEP to search for 24 hours at
analysis level with 100MB hashtables, from which around 64MB
is transpositiontable,
and i got some interesting data back. It shows clearly that some strategic
knowledge is needed.
I'm not used myself playing positions with unequal material, so it's tough
to say what is the best plan for white.
However lately some reports about programs 'inventing plans' when
searching deeply are quite laughable in these (semi-)closed positions.
19 plies of search still make me wonder what kind of knowledge is needed
to force programs playing with a plan.
What lines do other programs produce at huge depths?
