To get an idea on the strengths of different CPU's, go to http://www.rebel.nl/bench.htm and see. This is not a pitch for rebel but it will give you an idea on the CPU to choose or what you can afford. (I am in the same boat, but with no lifevest, so haven't bought one yet:)As for the rest, I will leave it up to smarter people.
