Just wondering It seems a lot of programs try to fine-tune searches, and find balance between tactics and chess knowledge. Is there any program out there that changes its algorithm as the game progresses; therefore varying its personality depending on whether it is in the opening, middle or engame? Could patterns be recognized that would give some sort of indication that a positional algorithm engine is to be used in one instance and a tactical in another? Are most programs just tweeked for the best average personality values or are there some that can vary the search values during the progress of the game?
