"Multiple Personality Disorder" (MPD) is an obsolete term.
It has been superseeded by "Dissociative Identity Disorder" (DID) in the DSM-IV
(Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders - Fourth Edition,
published by the American Psychiatric Association, Washington D.C., 1994, the
main diagnostic reference of Mental Health professionals in the United States of
America.).
DID is generally caused by repeated extreme trauma during childhood. Any young
chess program experiences this kind of trauma when it plays against the strong
commercial ones, so I would say that all chess programs must end up with this
kind of disorder. :)
