I have made two crafty personalities that may change during a game - one personality chnaged its parameters randomly after every move - I have discontinued that personality. Another personality gets stronger or weaker depending on whether it is perceiving it is winning or losing. It has parameters so that it can turn from incredibly weak engine to incredbily strong engine (almost instantly, as soon as the score unfavors it), or the use can use the settings that so that it is changes more gradual. But nothig like you are suggesting above.
