Centrinos are great for chess, also when you compare them with AthlonXP (real)
clock rates. A performance comparison (solving times):
Performance Comparison AthlonXP@1200 MHz <-> Centrino 1500 MHz
(256 MB hash each, 4-piece Nalimovs)
Quick# Engine time/A1200 time/C1500 C:A
---------------------------------------------------
01 Fritz 7.0.0.8 1:12 0:45 0,625
05 Hiarcs 9 0:37 0:24 0,649
07 Shredder 7.SE 0:53 0:32 0,604
13 Chess Tiger 14* 1:00 0:39 0,650
14 Anaconda 1.62 0:49 0:32 0,653
---------------------------------------------------
Ø = 0,636
*) CT14 192 MB Hash
The Centrino/1.5 needed 0.636 of the A@1200 solving times. - The relation of the
clock rates is 0,8:1 though! This means, the Centrino has ~26% performance
advantage:
1200/(1500*1,26) = 0,635
(The calculated advantage would of course even be much better in favour of the
Centrino, when you take the Athlon "performance ratings" instead of the real
clock rates.)
