For easier reading, I have converted Shannon famous paper to PDF format and modified it to use algebraic notation: http://www.ascotti.org/programming/chess/Shannon%20-%20Programming%20a%20computer%20for%20playing%20chess.pdf Maybe you'll find it useful too: all other versions I could find on the net were more or less in plain text and would not print well. (The figures are still missing but fortunately the text is clear enough.) I am not aware of copyright issues with this document, if you think it shouldn't be published on a web site please let me know.
