Have some problem where I am at, 44k best ill ever get on my dialup here in the forest. Trade off for beautiful surroundings i guess. we were lucky to get enough people to get cable just 2 years ago. Here is my solution suggestion for you. Ask around, some libraries and Community Colleges do have higher speed connections, so ask around politely about possiblities of using to grab learning software, many will help. also find out if any of business do also have some faster connections. I have had to work out a deal with a friend a couple of hours away that has personal T-3 connection and will spend weekend at his house grabbing the 178Mb main program, 183Mb help files and rest of packages i wanted from MSDN. And they do also have a way to order the disks i believe. Just look around at the sites given by Dr. Nalimov. >.my question is does microsoft have a program >on c# or delphi which i can use to program chess games with.will i have to get >the program on cd and install it on my computer. what would be the best lanug. >for a beginning programer of chess programs to learn and use. i have taken basic >and also dos.and i have had course in autocad. so does microsoft have a program >that i can use in programing a chess game. >i have the e-machine 2040 with the xp home windows. thanks for any information >you can give me...gerold. Simple answer there, The visual C++ has come recommended by many as a good language package for just such needs. Which is also my reason for grabbing. Have been out of programming field for 15 years and am finally going back now that computers/internet are finally becomming fun again to me. When i first learned C at 12 years old, and then had to put back on back burner for newer ML and hexi-dec codes to fix all the newer stuff coming out on new hardware. Drove me nuts and after 9 more years of pulling my hair out, i gave up. So what research I have started doing has made me realize that C++ has made life easier, but you will spend time unlearning bad habits from Basic and DOS(like i will too) Best thing i did was start spending time in here, and reviewing the archives of conversations to get best hints i could see. And there a some of the best minds in the programming field in here. Other main suggestion is spend lots of time at Amazon reviewing the choice of books for helping to learn the basics of C++, time well spent there will pay off in saving money on wasted books. Many books claim things but just arent suitable for most people just getting into C/C++. Also suggested http://www.gamedev.net/reference/articles/article1014.asp have a good look at what you are about to get into, also has a great set of resources for book reviews and compilers, etc. some are free and some arent. this was suggested by several here and i am grateful to them because this filled in some of my gaps from my research and am now ready to plunge in once we get rid of our "hurricane problems".
