You have created a 1990s program (read: no eval, the 1990s test suite, WAC, and
at 1990s equivalent timecontrols).  Its no surprise that futility pruning in
qsearch works for you, because the futility cut is almost 100% accurate when
your maximum positional score is .2 pawns.  When you have an eval, and get
massive swings due to kingsafety or passed pawns or even mobility, all of a
sudden futility pruning will suck for you, no doubt provoking a flood of posts
;)
