As I start with WinBoard for around 5-6 years, we have only three programs which
are compatible to the great engine protocol by Tim.

GnuChess
TheCrazyBishop
Crafty

I have a lot of fun with this topic and created a bigger webpage, powered the
complete area with all possibilitys I saw / have, about with Gambit-Soft, links
to WB forum and so on. Some other persons made the same and a new computer chess
area started with the possibility of "Engines". The commercials made the GUIs
compatible to Winboard and some other things go the right way and go a way the
most users like.

Today we have more as 300 chess programs which used the idea and protocol
sources by Tim Mann. This is not a bad situation because the community is bigger
and bigger and more and more persons have interest on this area.

Uri, you can be sure that much persons switched information about chess
programming. Look today on all the www pages about chess programming. You can
find a lot and after a study of this pages with knowledge about chess and
programming each person can start very "easy" the way to the first own chess
program. The open sources by Bob are for sure one of the reasons that persons
try to write an own chess program. All the helps by Bob and other programmers
too.

You can be sure, that a lot of programs are build by helps by the others but ...
"WITH OWN IDEAS".

For years we haven't such possibilitys today we have it.

But if a programmer used the sources without the permission of the main
programmer we have a problem.

I have written a mail to Bob, Eugenio, Pascal and you can be sure that the
discuss is solved by mail. I don't think that Eugenio is a copy but if so I
delete the program from Arena webpages.

This topic haven't to do with an interesting forum.
Clear that the persons search a sensation, the Americans like it :-) and try it
with all tricks.

A lot of persons try to are a "hero" with some bad things.
But the right way is to contact the programmers ...

Only my opinion about it!

Best
Frank
