Trivial and unsophisticated? Certainly no program has it all, but I'd be curious
to know what he thinks could be so revolutionarily overdone. Fritz is possibly
the one that is closest to having it all except looks. As for database programs,
clearly a marriage between ChessBase and Chess Assistant would be the consumer's
dream, and though there is certainly room for improvement I'd hardly go so far
as to claim they are trivial and unsophisticated. Besides, his claim isn't
supported by Microsoft's ventures into other software markets. Take games for
example. Some such as Ages of Empires are superb, but there have also been some
horrors released with the Microsoft logo. Some products such as CB Magazine,
simply blow me away, which I doubt a chessplayer even dreamed would exist a
decade ago.
