Why should Chessmaster and Chessbase have the entire chess market all to themselves when there is enough programming talent in this forum to develop a product that would compete with any existing chess program on the planet? Why not use the talent in this forum to overthrow existing corporate power structures and establish a self-sustaining corporation that would mass market chess programming products, but yet be BY-PROGRAMMERS and FOR-PROGRAMMERS. In fact, some kind of voting system could be developed whereby consumers would vote for their favorite engine. Some of the funds would be returned to authors whose engines have the most entertaining style, for example. Roger
