I'm also using Delphi 4 to develop an engine.  Quite hopeful of the playing
strength (>2000 ELO).  Early test indicate that it should be able top do ~100K
nodes per sec.  The speed of analysis is up there with C and the code is of
course more readable.  Delphi 4 even has 64 bit integers that helps when coding
Hash tables.  Definitely a good environment for chess programming - the only
downside being lack of portability :(
