But people starting in the world of computer chess probably don't realize it. So at least some-months-long free read-only access is necessary to allow fresh blood in. Still, it seems more logical to me to try a free forum first (either maintained by volunteers or on some free server, registration required). And if it turns out to be unsatisfactory, then...no choice - paid service is a must. I'm sure that making CCC paid will reduce people's interest and dynamics of CC development (anyway, 100$ here in Poland is a significant amount, most programmers from less developed countries can be consequently banned from CCC)- so it definitely should be avoided.
