I'm flattered that one of my post has become the basis for a pole question, but I believe the former microsoft department head that I was talking about, felt that every aspect of chess programs were still unsophiticated (to his way of thinking), not just the strength. Somehow the threads here always seem to focus 1st on strength more than anything else. Personally I think if Microsoft did get involved in the creation of chess software, we would see them buying the biggest chess software houses out there. Then 85% of all computer's would have something like Fritz & Chess Base already bundled on them, and no other programs would work on that computer:). The USCF would be totally quashed by MS, unless they sold themselve's to them. FIDE would be out of business as Mircrosoft would the DeFacto World chess organization. I suppose Bill Gates would be the presidents. GM's would play in any tournament he sponsored!? Chess Politions critizing these products might mysteriously dissappear... Well at least the little chess icons and chess diagrams could be embedded in any document with just a couple of clicks. We would need much bigger hard drives, greater ram, and high speed DVD drives for everthing else too. But hey isn't it already like this? mrslug - the inkompetent chess software addict!
