There are _lots_ that said, around 1997-1999 "It will take micro hardware at least 10 years to catch up to DBs speed." Does that say "micros will _never_ be able to beat DB?" Nope. Not even close. He just likes to take my name and use it for no good reason, _particularly_ when I am not around to defend against his nonsense... > >Nothing can ever get better -> I can understand him saying that given your >attitude in the past. You've always minimized the current programs performance >compared to DB, without any factual basis most of the time. I had _plenty_ of factual basis. I cited the ACM events from 1987 through 1994 where they blew everyone out. They beat Kasparov, something nobody else has done through 2004. Their speed was well-known at 200M nodes per second. It will likely be 2007 before a micro can approach that. Even Hydra, using its own special-purpose hardware is not even 1/4 of that speed today. > >Compare the statement to the "Samuels program has solved checkers" attitude >that the Chinook team coped with. > >Basically, this kind of posts are "masterpieces" by you, not so much by >Vincent, I fear.
