And this is the problem we have with computer chess fora. Today we have a lot of fora systems. In the case of Arena (free development, everyone can help us, open bug list and so on) it's more interesting to used an own forum to do it. We can collect the important messages and have all in one. For a bigger programmer team perhaps not interestig but Martin go the way of the programming alone and have not to search if he is sitting on his PC and try to improved his program. To search in other fora for interesting messages is a lot of work. Nothing to do with CCC or other chess fora. I like CCC and other fora but the way we go is in my opinion right and we have success with it. >Also, testing your own creature against beta's isn't something you normaly do so >it isn't important for me to have access to the latest beta version of a gui. > >The reason I don't play with Arena myself is because I almost only play games as >human against engines and the nasty deley when you try to move a piece have >stoped me to go any further. For the few engnine-engine matches I do I'm more >than pleased with Winboard and the Ert tool. I like Winboard a lot :-) Since two years I have not installed WinBoard because I am blessed with Arena. It's right that beta versions are "only" actual development versions and not so important. More important are the final results, the release version. At the moment Martin worked on Arena 1.1 and try to fix only bugs. I have also a lot of fun with Arena and own games. Used a DGT board and for me is important that the DGT clock XP works better. The most important point for myself and Martin will do it after the release version of Arena 1.1. >>This means not that you "Must" send bugs, impressions, wishes and so on. >>This means that you can send anything if you have time to make it. > >Ok, I missunderstand some messages from you. I thought I read that you >threatened to delete users that didn't give response some months back. Yes, this is right! Different reasons to do it. The most have to do with an easy administration and with security. We have with passwords system a lot of security problems. Password sharing is for us not very good and the owner of Parsimony don't like it and closed much fora with the reason "Password sharing". It's possible that the idea to delete non active members after an half year is not good. After the reorganisation last year we deleted all passwords, create a new concept (ASA) and started again. Today the forum have new ideas and the work by the Admins are very good (I am not longer Admin in Arena Support Forum). The most important point is the Arena development to make Arena stronger and since the reorganisation Arena made bigger jumpings because all is more effective. This forum is very very important for us, not for hits or to be the biggest ... important for the development of Arena. We have in this forum not to many OT discuss, not to many provocations and we must not delete to many messages. In the latest years we delete around 3 threads and perhaps 10 messages. >Odd Gunnar Sorry for my long answer in bad English ... Have a nice day! Best Frank PS: I know it, Arena don't need your adapter and you have no interest :-) No, no just a joke ... your adapter is great for a lot of persons and the work you do is really good. You must have some knowledge about the protocols and perhaps you are one of the persons to have interest to write with others in a group a strong new version of WinBoard protocol III. I believe it must be possible to use the screen information UCI have directly with a newer WinBoard protocol.
