Mate-threat extension doesn't work for me. When I try, the move is found quickly
but then it takes forever to reach a mate score. Without extension, move is
found anyway after a few seconds, gets a good score after a few more seconds and
resolves in a mate in one minute (at ply 9).
Only extensions I use are check (always one ply), pawn push on 2nd/7th and
"sacrifice" (i.e. a piece eats one of the pawns that defend the king).
As you suggested, I'm going to try recapture and see how it goes...
