Let me rephrase, based on nowadays hardware: if you have a not so good search there is space improving your engine with 100-200 elo making your search good. If you already have a good search you will gain very little making the search very good, say 20-30 elo maximum. However even if you have good chess knowledge there is space for an 150-200 elo improvement, especially in the endgame. My best, Ed
