Otherwise I would suspect the reed switches. They are hermetically sealed and if they leak the contacts inside would oxidize and not make good contact. Use an ohm meter across a good reed stitch when a piece is placed over it and do the same to a square which the computer can't read. The unit should not be on when making this reading with the ohm meter. Good luck! Bill
