Indeed. 27...gxf3 is the only hope, as far as I can tell.

Believe it -- the great mate finder, The King, says that it is true. 29...Nxd1
leads to a Mate in 15 (or better) starting with 30.Nf5, and it only takes The
King 10 seconds to say so. This is on a P4-2.4:

But 30...Bh4 is far worse than 30...Nxc3+. The first move leads to a Mate in 5
(as you found), but the latter makes you have to find 31.Ka1! (which you did in
your analysis below), because 31.Kb2 would lose. Although I suspect that you
would have found it OTB -- you're obviously pretty good!
