Well, the latest version is 8.27 which was never released and I think it is the best one. Marty is a genius programmer. He made a huge work including a lot of chess knowledge in the search function. He had to make compromises to keep the knowledge not to heavy to slow down the speed to much. One could see this when the program was able to see immediately a win while other programs were taking several minutes to see it. I think in many ways M-Chess is still a quite advanced chess program.
