It's not so much about strength as about reasonable behaviour for the computer player. After an initial human 1. e2e4 black just *cannot* spend 3 minutes to calculate the response e7e5. That would be *boring*! At least a mini-book is required for the program to be an interesting opponent. Bo Persson
