>>no..free speech does not encompass speech calling for the death of gays or for >>the kiling of jews or the mass murder of an entire country > >Calling for the death of gays, killing of jews, and the mass murder of an entire >country?... hmmm. Do you remember the hysteria after 9/11? Muslims and anyone >who might even closely resemble a muslim were targeted. They were evil. Stats >were pulled out. They were asked to leave planes. A Brazilian was asked to leave >a plane because of his skin color. This wasn't a minority reaction either. All >of this is the result of the way people thought. Suppose no one said a thing? >They just acted on all this, and no dialogue was initiated? To many there was no >discussion, it was clear. Not clear that this was a new form of racism cropping >up. No, it was clear that it was a matter of *self-defense*. what does this have to do with allowing clearly rascist posts on the CTF? are you sugessting now that the CTF is a release valve for the world at large and will help prevent actual violence ?? there is no benefit whatsoever to the calling for the killing of all Gays..just like there was no benefit to the calling for all ARAB blood after 9/11 it does not prevent actual racial crimes,in fact i think it fosters them this "release valve" idea is wrong headed i am a mmember/poster on several other dedicated chess computer sites and there is no need for a sister board to serve as a release valve for bigoted hateful statments and when a thread becomes too off topic the moderators are quick to act.. its ok Albert..go ahead and defend the status quo over at the CTF until the board is more reasonably moderated you will have this reaction from many of the CCC members and BTW...most posters on the CTF do not post here often not until the "CALL TO ARMS" that is Steve , I think it is absurd to characterize the entire >>>forum on a few such threads. Fernando made a good point in saying that in many >>>ways, the members of that forum aren't merely a congregation of names having >>>thematic discussions. We are in many many ways a family. As you barely go there, >>>you cannot appreciate this, and no doubt may think this is some form of >>>misplaced sentimentalism. It is not. I know quite a bit about a number of the >>>members not because I have had a beer with them, but having discussed and >>>partook in discussions with so many of them. >>> >>>Even the much maligned Tim, whom I also find myself at ends many times due to >>>his homophobia, is really not the demon being portrayed here. I could tell you >>>about his oddball sense of humor, keen and knowledgeable interest in astronomy, >>>politics, and of course his cutting edge sense of politics and foreign policy. I >>>completely disagree with him on just about *all* of his political views mind >>>you, but he is a keen debater and not a stupid one by any means, so it can be >>>quite interesting. >>> >>>There's Matthew Hull with his eternal arguments with Chandler, and strong >>>religious beliefs. My, how those two love to go at each other. You could accuse >>>one or the other of stalking but that would be silly. After all no one forces >>>them to write 20 gazillion posts to each other trying to prove the other is >>>wrong. And both are might high-horsed if you get my drift. Chandler got himself >>>in trouble for his arguing, and is banned at the moment. He'll be back though >>>I'm sure. >>> >>>There's Axel with his tales of love lorn, and amazing knowledge of genetics and >>>biology in general. He is very fair handed and loves a good debate. he is also >>>very giving and doesn't hesitate to share his erudition in science. in return we >>>all try to help him with some lady issues, but well, how much help can a forum >>>be, no matter how well meaning?... :-) >>> >>>There's Jose Fernando Mendes, the fascinating linkman. He posts links all the >>>time, many of which are fascinating and I sure wish I knew how he finds so many >>>interesting one from such varied sources. >>> >>>There's Fernando, whom all know well here. The Chilean political TV/Radio talk >>>star, who is feeling the years from his every growing comments on his age (I >>>*COMPLETELY* disagree with your perspective on this BTW Fernando - Ex: my >>>grandmother who is 77 years-young). He is one of the most balanced thinkers I >>>have met, with an amazing sense of perspective and proportion. I strive to be >>>that way, but he just is. He is erudite, cultured, nice, and always an eye on >>>the ladies. >>> >>>There's also Ed (Schroeder), whom you may only know via his contributions to >>>computer chess, but who has posted there on a variety of topics in great detail >>>showing the man behind the name so to speak. Other programmers partake there >>>too, such as Amir Ban (of Junior fame), Ulrich Tuerke (Comet), Omid (Falcon), >>>Uri, Bruce (with his hilarious tales), etc. Not to mention Stephen Ham, >>>Thorsten, Leonid, Peter Berger, Graham Laight, Guy Marfan, and others. >>> >>>In a sense it's funny, but this place is called the Computer Chess CLUB, and it >>>is called the Chess Thinkers FORUM, yet *it* is much more the club than here, >>>and this is much more a forum. >>> >>> Albert
