Subject: 64-bit compile and win32

aloha!

i just got myself an AMD64, and although it's a nice machine and all, and my
chess&checkers programs are running faster than ever before, i would like to get
all out of it that i can.

question: can i compile my chess bitboard program specifically for the AMD64
(with GCC - anything else?), and have that run under a normal windows 2K
professional? or would this necessitate a 64-bit OS?

cheers
  martin
