Does it >blow up? Nobody I know of extends 2 plies when a single legal move exists. It would likely blow up. If you have fractional extensions, though, you can apply variable extensions based on the number of legal moves. I have mostly seen this done when escaping from check. Phalanx does this, for example. --Jon
