There is something that perhaps you are missing; no matter if a program does not go deeper than X plies, its continous processing means that more nodes are examined in a large WIDTH inside the same DEPTH. It is not the same to see, say, ten thousand moves inside the horizon of ply 6 than to examine 300 thousand moves inside the same hotrizon making use of more time available. The extra moves can means to detect threats, best combinations, etc. So it makes sense a faster COPU after all. Fernando
