In my book he won the WC. He went through all the steps and matches right up to
Bobby's door. Bobby is the one who failed to defend his title, and not Karpov
who failed to win it. Even if Fischer was stronger, as I'm sure he was, it is
completely unimportant. You can't sit on your laurels, and expect to be given
the title on belief. This is a sport, and that means the proving has to be done,
and redone, until... someone else proves *they're* stronger.
