My old 14% hit rate (hash table matches * 100 / hash table probes) went up to 34% after adding storing of null move in hash table. Although total nodes searched dropped 6%, solution rate on WAC @ 1 second per move on the P3 1ghz dropped from 250 to 248 and average main search depth dropped from 7.01 ply to 6.97 ply and maximum ply rearched by both main search and quiescence dropped from 21.31 to 21.16. This is strange since one might think that having the null move search instantly retrievable occasionally from the hash table would make the search more efficient.
