Hello >Can anyone here tell me the differance between Shredder Classic version >available on www.shredderchess.com and Shredder 8 by Chessbase (Playing >Strength) and what Advantage/Disadvantage I have if I buy Shredder Classic which >is considerably less in Price. First off all and maybe most impotant to you is that the Shredder-Classic-Engine is officialy 100-150 Elo points weaker than the Shredder8 from chessbase (native and UCI verion). The two engines are two different engines with two different names! Then the Chessbase Version has a playchess access which is not present at the Classic GUI. There are several functions in the Classic which are not present at the Chessbase-GUI (Tripple-Brain, Endgame-Orakel ...) and vice versa. I would suggest to download the Classic and test it by yourself but keep in mind that the test version is a bit restricted and the CLassic Engine in weakend additionaly. I could comment on usability, intuitivity or windows "standards" but it is better if you make a picture by yourself. If you want to have the best you have to buy both. Install the Classic-GUI and the big Classic book together with the UCI-Shredder from the Chessbase GUI. The combination of all give the strongest possible Shredder-entity. (Out off personal experience: even if set to "Turney" the Chessbase-Shredder-book is doing what it wants, which is resulting in a possible decreased overall strength of Shredder8) Bye Ingo Bauer
