In Shredder Classic (the engine) SMK have made some effort to create a 'dumbing down' feature that, in the few games I have had time to watch or play, seems to be on the right track. In the lower range I have watch some games played by beginners and it loocked quite good, eg. it didn't put a piece on price but the player had to find a short combo to win a piece or find the mate.
