Hi Harald. What you do makes sense, keeping the max_value so you can scale to a fixed range. I do a partial sort to get the top few history moves. The top one gets a score like 97 which is less than killers (98 and 99) which are less than winning captures (100 to 900) which are less than the hash move (1000). Stuart may be doing something like you but he didn't say. His formula looks like he's adding apples and oranges. Dan H.
