And I think the answer is 'No'. If Microsoft wanted into the Chess market they would buy somebody and build on that. They have done this with a number of products (AFAIK): Internet Explorere was NCSA Mosaic Microsoft C was Lattice C ? Microsoft Java was Sun Java (little joke there) Source Safe was something else as well, I'm sure 8-) Oh, and Word was based on Tetris, as far as I can tell... They wont start from stratch, but would put in a lot of research of the product they bought and improve it greatly. They would also create a chess database file-format that would be proprietry, and would become the de facto standard, eventually. IMHO anyway Andy.
