This is a good question. What I do in PostModernist is check to
see if I've got at least 2.5*timeTakenForLastIteration left. If not, I assume
I won't finish the next iteration, so I just stop at this point. The 2.5 comes
from the fact that in PM, the branching factor seems to average out at around
3. If your branching factor is significantly different, you should choose
another multiplier.

What do others do?
