There's a third alternative, of not starting a new ply.

In Junior, I always try to complete ply searches, unless there are special
circumstances. I believe that interrupting the search is often wasteful, and may
be risky. One big problem of Junior 4.6 was that it would agree to interrupt the
search at the wrong time.
