>That would require close to 90 paying members. If we don't have 90 paying >members, then perhaps the board is not worth the time , effort etc. i think that more members will pony up once they cannot access the board if they dont join as a paying member alot of people come here every single day, sometimes several times a day this is the first place people run to once a new PC Chess program is released both the programmer and the users use this board as if it were an add-on to the program itself once this is takin away..it will be missed and it will hurt those that dont join funny thing is..i am one of the few who dont even use the board for PC chess progs, but i enjoy the far and few in between posts on the old dediciated computers as long as its so easy to let someone else dig into their pockets most will not pony up at all less then 90 members donated out of 5000 active email accounts take the free access away..i bet at least 200-300 pony up Steve > >I agree with Steve that perhaps the forum did not bring any additional revenues >to CCC. One, we have the total demise of the dedicated chess computer niche. >So much good chess software is free - _ Pro Deo, Crafty, Ruffian (1.0.x >versions) Arena, Winboard - that to certian extent it has become commoditized - >lowest price wins. For meyself personally, I love computer chess -- but one of >the reasons I love it so much is I can go weeks enjoying without spending a dime >-- just my time. > >It's not quite time to write the obituary of CCC - but we are geting closer. > >Best, > >Michael > >ps - Perhaps we should run a poll.
