Hi, Steve has stated previously that the ISP only accounts for $590 a year, or around $50 a month-- The remaining fees are employment expenses. Also, most, if not all, home based broadband connections have clauses the prohibit you from running a publicly available server -- they might not actively police such a policy, but when they find a violation they are well within their rights to pull the plug. Shared ISPs do not provide support for any software system the user installs, unless such a system is advertised as a feature of the ISP. Thus, you will still have to pay someone to support the system in case of failure. So, while I believe that (maybe) having a better system would reduce support expense in the long term, it will do nothing to offset any ISP or short-term support costs.
