Some people have complained that the internal engine for Chess Partner
4 is too weak. So to correct that you can use the latest version of
Crafty. Why buy Chess Partner 4? It simply has the best features for
any program in it's price range $30 U.S.

First step is to install the cp4engineext.exe file, which you can
download
from site: www.lokasoft.nl/uk/downloads
Below is the readme file that should be read carefully
Remember this engine extension is a beta version.

-------
Installation:  Just run the selfinstalling
file.

After the installation start ChessPartner
Select Extra|Options on the Chess engine
tab click the Engine button, there should
be a entry "ChessIf.ChessIf.1 in the
dropdown list. This selects the plug-in
module. You may get a error message asking
to edit the engine profile, responding yes
brings up the plug-in profile selection
dialog. Select crafy or gnuchess, you
must edit the profile for the location
of crafty or gnuchess.
In this release the profile is store in
a simple text file, each engine profile
start with a line [name] where name is
CRAFTY, GNUCHESS, etc.
The file is located in the windows
directory and called:
  ENGINEEXT.INI

Make sure to save the settings !

Below this line there are a number of
parameters that can be set, the most
important are the first four:

Console=1
Logfile="engineext.log"
EngineDir=""
EnginePath="f:\crafty\wcrafty-15_14.exe"

If console is set to 1 all commands that
are send to the engine are displayed in
a console window. Set this to 0 to hide
the console window.

Logfile=... if a filename is given a commands
are also saved in this file, usefull for
debugging. If left blank no logging is done.

EngineDir specifies the directory where the
engine is to be runned from. If left blank
the directory of the program is used.

EnginePath is the command line used to
start the engine, must be a full path name.

-----------------------------------------
Known problems.

For a number of features ChessPartner relies
on functions in the chess engine, e.g. the
opening book display, adjourn,abort, and Flag features. These
functions are not present in all other chess
engines so these functions are disabled.

Navigation in the moves list is extemely
slow, this is because ChessPartner always
tries to send the full game history to
the chess engine, Crafty and Gnuchess are
both very slow in accepting the moves.

Testing has mainly been done using crafty.

On occassions the chess engine does not
exit.

Not all chesspartner levels are interpreted
correctly.

Mate values are not displayed correcty, e.g.
instead of displaying mate in xx moves a score
or 32??? is displayed.

In the crafty profile pondering has been
disabled, this was neccessary to get the
analyse game function to work reliable.

Don't try to make illegal moves where the king
is in check.

There is no indication on the screen which engine is loaded.
Search depth is limited to 29 ply.
