I had already looked at 24.bxa6 as well with CM9_SKR on an AMD 2500. Here's my
amateur analysis with the help of The King.

24.bxa6 Rxf2 25.Kxf2 Qh6 26.Kg2 {26.Kg1 g4 Black wins} g4 27.fxg4 Qe3 {Black
wins}

So 24.bxa6 probably loses also, but things might have been more difficult for
Leko if he wasn't ready with 25...Qh6. If instead, for example, 25...Qh5, then
26.Ke3! Bg6 27.Nf1 Qh3 28.Bc4 Qc8 {to slow down the a-pawn} could save the game.
I'm not too sure of this, and somebody else should confirm it.

Note that 25...Qh6 26.Ke3 does not work, because of 26...Bb5 27.c4 Nd5+! and now
if 28.cxd4 g4+ 29.f4 Qxh2 wins. And if 28.Kd3 then 28...Bxa6 29.Ne4 Qh5! wins,
threatening Qxf3+.
