I went to look at the game (I went to this page http://www.yourmove.com/db6.htm which explains it reasonably well). I now understand your position better. It would be interesting to see what Deep Blue thought of 8... fxe6. However, I must wonder why Kasparov played 8... Qe7 immediately. If he didn't know the line, it would seem that he would have taken some time out to think about it. Maybe he knew something about 8... fxe6 9.Bg6 Ke7 where 10.0–0 is not best. Possibly 10.Bf5 which prevents Qc7 and black's king is temporarily trapped in the middle with 11.0-0 coming up. You may want to try playing 10.Bf5 with one of your programs and see if black gets crushed faster. If so, then Kasparov may have expected DB to not move 8. Nxe6 and knew he had to reply 8... Qe7 to get his king to D8 (i.e. the only way out, but still not good). > >Uri
